Shadows and Light by Patricia Watwood

In this 5-day workshop, American figurative artist Patricia Watwood will teach the structures of the skull and features to help you build solid drawing into a head and shoulders portrait.  Demos on individual features, and the construction of the neck and shoulders will help you create an expressive likeness.  Students will also sketch in pencil on paper to understand individual features.  The class will have a long pose over the 5 days to develop a classical head in a layered academic approach to oil painting.  All levels welcome.

Watwood is a leading figure in the contemporary classical movement. Her subject matter is the figure, most commonly the nude, and uses allegory and mythology, often with contemporary urban settings. Her compositions unite a classical aesthetic with a modern sensibility.
