”Pixel Glazing” is the unique skin painting technique of Lo Chan Peng

Painting by Lo Chan Peng

Many people are interested in the unique way I render skin in my artwork. It involves a series of complex processes that take several days to complete. I have named my painting system 'Pixel Glazing,' which is derived from my study of the oil painting techniques of masters since the 15th century. I plan to provide a technique based on portrait photography in a single session. This is a painting method I have independently developed. This course focuses on the Pixel Glazing technique, particularly in capturing the unique texture of skin. Students will learn to use Golden's Regular Gel mixed with calcium carbonate for canvas preparation and gradually build up multiple layers of oil paint. I will provide demonstrations and explanations to help students understand the fundamental logic and techniques of Pixel Glazing and guide them in applying these skills to their artwork. The course spans five days, during which I will offer guidance and answer students' questions.

Pixel Glazing is a system that requires simultaneous consideration of different aspects of painting. I will guide students in understanding the basic principles of painting, such as 'hue,' 'chroma,' and 'value,' and the characteristics of oil painting materials, including transparent and opaque colors. I will share my personal ways of thinking and observing the colors of the world. Additionally, I will introduce the concept of the 'map' of the palette and how to 'bury' colors, explain the 'fishing net' painting method, and discuss strategies for completing a painting. I will share how, when an artist deeply understands their materials to a certain level, we can work with the world to complete the artwork together.
